Canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2) is one of the most hazardous canine diseases with rapid worldwide
distribution causing seriously substantial hemorrhagic gastroenteritis disease. Depending on the severity of the
disease and host immune status there is a wide range of symptoms that canines may show them. After that
original CPV-2 was identified in the late 1970s, the new antigenic variants of this infectious virus have been
identified steadily that are CPV-2a, CPV-2b, and CPV-2c. In this study, 20 rectal swab samples were
investigated and analyzed by PCR methods and RFLP analysis using specific primers and MboII restriction
enzyme, respectively. Our results indicated that 75% (15 out of 20) were CPV positive. In addition, 33.33% (5
out of 15) and 66.67% (10 out of 15) of positive cases were female and male, respectively. As well as, it was
demonstrated that 66.67% (10 out of 15) and 33.33% (5 out of 15) positive cases were CPV-2b and CPV-2a,
respectively by further research with PCR reaction and RFLP analysis. Additionally, CPV-2c was not detected
in our study. These study revealed that CPV-2b has a higher spread in our area rather than other variants.
Therefore, it seems the importance of further researches to introduce new vaccines containing all CPV variants
is significant.
