Abstract Background and Objectives: Function of iodine as a trace element in the human nutrition and body is the synthesis of thyroid hormones. Unfortunately, there is no enough iodine content in the daily diet in our country. The objective of this study was evaluation of iodine content and purity of iodized table salt in province of Mazandaran during 1395. Methods: Samples have been collected by inspectors of environmental health, health networks and Food Control Administration at intervals of three months and iodine content and the purity of the samples were evaluated. Results: Results showed that all 15 evaluated samples were within the acceptable limit of iodine content (20-55 ug/g). Also, the purity of all samples was within the acceptable limit (>99.2%). Conclusion: The results of this study showed success in the program of consuming standard iodized salt in Mazandaran during 1395.But given the importance of this micronutrient in human health and the prevalence of goiter in Iran it is recommended that industry be required to produce standard iodized salt and improve the purity of table salt to at least 99/2%, also continuous control and monitoring be exerted at shorter intervals in order to keep the standards.
