Prospects for using gallium oxide-based compound anodes for lithium-ion batteries

چکیده
Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have garnered signiffcant research interest as one of the most promising energy storage systems for cell phones and portable electronic devices due to their high energy density, low selfdischarge rate, high coulombic efffciency (CE), long cycling performance, and negligible memory effect. Nonetheless, with the continuous rise in high-energy consuming applications such as hybrid and electric automobiles, researchers are exploring ways to enhance the battery performance and low cost of LIBs by developing cost-effective electrode materials with large reversible capacity, extended lifespan, and high-rate capability. Gallium oxide-based compounds (GOCs) are considered emerging anodes for LIBs due to their high theoretical capacities, abundance, non-toxicity, and cost-effectiveness. However, ongoing innovations in terms of higher electrical/ionic conductivity, longer cycling stability, and higher rate performance of GOCs are required to satisfy the growing demands of commercial LIBs. This review presents an overview of the progress of GOCs as anode materials in LIBs. Additionally, various synthesis methods of GOCs, along with their merits and drawbacks, are discussed. Moreover, this review highlights the challenges observed with GOCs for LIBs and presents effective strategies to address the issues. Furthermore, promising future perspectives in the research ffeld of GOCs in LIBs are summarized.
