Objectives: Recently, plants are being used in the synthesis of nano particles and nano emulsion due to their cost- effectiveness and eco-friendliness approach.Several studies have reported the anti bacterial activity of essential oils and extracts of medicinal herbs, such as cumin. The cumin is called CuminumcyminumfromApiaceae family. In the present study the anti microbialactivityof cumin (CuminumcyminumL.)nano-emulsion were studied.in vitro was done using gram negative and gram positive bacteria.Materials and methods :Bacterial sensitivity to nano particles was tested using minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) were determined by micro dilution technique. Results:The essential oils had good bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties except for Escherichia coli. The bacterial strains sensitive to cumin. nano-emulsion were in the following order: staphylococcus aureus , shigelladysenteriae , listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella enteritidisand Escherichia col.The results showed that the ranges of minimuminhibitory concentration of the cumin nano-emulsion were 2.25 -3.75 mg/ml and the ranges of minimum bactericidal concentration of the cumin nano-emulsion were 3.75 -7 mg/ml.Microorganisms were different in terms of resistance and gram-negative bacteria were more resistant than gram-positive bacteria. Escherichia coli was most resistant to cuminnano-emulsion than other microorganisms.Significant anti bacterial properties of cumin nano emulsions were observed against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria mono cytogenes). And Escherichia coli showed less sensitivity than other bacteria. Conclusions: It can be used as alternative instead of antimicrobial compounds.
