Introduction
Damage detection based on mode shapes is popular since obtaining experimental mode shapes of the damaged structure is possible. Usually, damaged mode shapes can be fed into wavelet transform to localize damage; however, sometimes, it is impossible to localize damage using damaged mode shapes fed into wavelet transform.
Materials and methods
This paper suggests a robust damage detection technique by feeding scaled covariance of mode shapes into the one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform to detect damage in the reinforced laminate composite beams.
Conclusion
Numerical and experimental investigations are conducted for the reinforced laminate composite beams with nano-particles. Findings show that the proposed damage detection technique can detect all numerical and experimental damage scenarios with high accuracy.
