The detection of red blood cells (RBC) is highly important in diagnosing blood disorders. In this article, we propose a novel approach using phononic crystals to measure RBC parameters compared to normal blood serum. The proposed sensor structure consists of a 2D phononic crystal with a PMMA host material and a square array of tungsten circular columns. The sensor structure includes a ring resonator coupled to a waveguide, with empty cylinders embedded inside the resonator that are filled with normal blood serum and diseased blood serum (which has a higher level of red blood cells due to the disease). Our proposed sensor can detect any changes in RBC parameters compared to normal serum, which may be indicative of a blood disorder.
